WE DARE YOU! -- CONTEST RULES

PRIZES: First prize -- $50.00 (Cdn.) plus certificate.

               Second to fifth prizes -- certificates.

Top five finalists judged by, and winning manuscript selected, by Tara Parsons, Editor, HQN Books.

 

ELIGIBLE: The contest is open to any manuscript within the romance genre. Entries must be original works not under contract for publication as of January 1, 2008. Entrants must be unpublished or not published in book length fiction within the last three (3) years.  Manuscripts previously entered are ineligible unless given special permission by contest coordinator.

 

ENTRIES: Each entry must contain:

                1. An entry form with signed waiver

                2. Entry fee of $20.00 CDN or US funds

                3. Four copies of the first twelve pages of manuscript, double spaced and printed on 8 ½" by 11" paper.

                4. A title page that includes the author's name and address, the title of the work and the publishing line aimed for (target market is important for accurate judging). Author's name must not appear on the manuscript copies.

                Optional: A synopsis is not required, nor will it be considered for scoring purposes. However, you may include a synopsis of no more that three pages (three copies please) to provide a background to the story if you wish. Judges may comment on it.

 

DEADLINE: Entries must be postmarked by May 15, 2008 and received by June 1, 2008.

Judges' score sheets will be mailed no later than September 30, 2008.

We Dare You!

The Daring Dozen -- we dare you to hook us in a dozen pages!

Competition Guidelines

Can you hook us on your romance?  Can you show us the spark between your hero and heroine? 

Make us turn the pages?  If you can, your entry may be one of five finalists to be read by an editor!

The Saskatchewan Romance Writers are holding their tenth "We Dare You!" contest.  Each entry will be scored by three judges to determine the finalists. 

JUDGING   Each entry will be scored by three SRW judges to determine the five finalists. SRW judges will consider the following areas in scoring entries:

1. The Hook
2. Characterization
3. Sexual Tension between hero and heroine
4. Conflict
5. Dialogue
6. Setting
7. Style
8. Presentation


FIVE FINALISTS The top five finalists will be judged and chosen by SRW members, and the winning manuscript selected by Tara Parsons, Editor, Harlequin Books.

All entrants will receive the judges' score sheets and helpful comments in regards to their manuscript. Postage costs are included in your entry fee. Entries will be shredded following judging.
